my 24hrs post-Christmas detox

The Christmas festivities are behind us but New Years is knocking on the door. More delicious rich food to eat and of course more bubbles and cocktails to drink. So I am giving my body a 24hr detox break .

Detox ingredients I use are: grapefruit, lemon, avocado, beetroot, spinach, broccoli, cilantro, mint and ginger.

Start your day with a fresh mint, lemon, and grapefruit juice with a little honey for sweetness. Grapefruit is rich in vitamin C needed to boost your immune system and helps lower cholesterol. Mint is a natural antiseptic and treats stomach aches.

For lunch enjoy a salad with avocado, beets, spinach, cilantro and lemon zest. Avocados are rich in fiber, vitamins and minerals. Beetroot contains manganese, a metal aiding your metabolism. Spinach is full of iron, magnesium and calcium – yes your bones will thank you.

For dinner, cuddle up with a turmeric broccoli lemongrass ginger soup. Turmeric in Ayurvedic practices threats indigestion and liver ailments. Ginger is a stimulant to a slow gut and helps with nausea. Cilantro or coriander contains a ton of vitamins as does broccoli.






Detox Juice:

need: 1 lemon, 1 pink grapefruit, 1 tea spoon of honey ( serves 1)

go: Juice the citrus, add equal parts of water and use honey if too tart.

Detox Salad:

need: 1 avocado sliced, 1 beetroot cooked and sliced, handful of baby spinach fresh leaves, lemon zest (serves 1)

go: Combine the ingredients and season with salt and pepper to taste.

Detox soup:

need: 1 onion sliced, 1 carrot peeled and chopped, 3 broccoli fleurettes sliced, coriander leaves, 1 lemongrass, 1 cm ginger peeled and diced, 500ml vegetable stock, 1 table spoon turmeric (curcuma) – (serves 1)


  1. Let the onion sweat in some olive oil, add the carrots and ginger; add turmeric and mix so all is coated.
  2. Add stock, bring to the boil, add broccoli and lemongrass. Cook for 10 minutes.
  3. When serving add the fresh coriander leaves.
